Leadership Part 1

Hey I’m writing a message on leadership and I am going to pull parts of it out at a time and share it with you guys and hope you learn from it as I have learned from it also. Most of this stuff is from stuff I have learned down in redding california from bethel church. But some of it is mine. So God Bless

You ARE Called. Not someone else.

Matthew 5:14-16 (New Century Version

14 “You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand so the light shines for all the people in the house. 16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven.

Jeremiah was a little unsure of God’s call on his life – he did not ‘feel’ like the guy for the job.

Jeremiah 1:7-8 (New Century Version)

7 But the Lord said to me, “Don’t say, ‘I am only a boy.’ You must go everywhere I send you, and you must say everything I tell you to say.8 Don’t be afraid of anyone, because I am with you to protect you,” says the Lord.

A Journey into intimacy with God.

You will only be intimate with someone you believe loves, someone you trust. Therefore you must first know that your are radically, passionately loved by God, then you can be a radical lover of God. It takes God to love God.

Anything outside of intimacy becomes religion and work. It is discovery of this love that will take you through the processes that all of us go through to become more like Him and the leader you are called to be. We can never do in our own efforts. It is by God’s power and His love that we change, Not by our own.

God of Burning Desire

Yes, He desires and wants. He is full of intense desire and burning love for each of us. He created you to be with Him.

God of Jealous Anger

He is out to remove all that hinder love in our lives, not being loving people but loving Him. How He confronts His Enemies, all throughout the old testament. When God reveals sin in our life it is judgment against Satan. Satan’s plan is to get us to sin.

God of Fascinating Beauty

Being confident in God’s love for you allows you to see His beauty. Rejection and condemnation keep you from seeing Him as beautiful.

As we walk through the journey of intimacy with God we begin to learn and see clearer and clearer who Ho really is. Our preconceived ideas and mind sets from our own life begin to be changed to line up with what God says in His Word. We go from being self-focused to God Focused

Burning with His Love

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 (New Century Version)

6 Put me like a seal on your heart,
like a seal on your arm.
Love is as strong as death;
jealousy is as strong as the grave.
Love bursts into flames
and burns like a hot fire.
7 Even much water cannot put out the flame of love;
floods cannot drown love.
If a man offered everything in his house for love,
people would totally reject it.

The Greatest Servant of All

Matthew 20:25-28 (New Century Version)

25 Jesus called all the followers together and said, “You know that the rulers of the non-Jewish people love to show their power over the people. And their important leaders love to use all their authority. 26 But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a servant.27 Whoever wants to become first among you must serve the rest of you like a slave. 28 In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”

How did Jesus serve?

1. He sat and taught for hours
He gave his time to see others grow
2. He provided food for the multitudes
He did not require they provide for Him. He had compassion on them.
3. He healed and prayed for people everywhere he went
4. He died on the cross
The most demeaning form of death in His day and went voluntarily because He knew what the outcome would be. He was not interested in saving Himself and He was an innocent man.
5. He went voluntarily when they came for Him
Peter cut the ear of a guard off, ready to fight – he did not understand the time.
6. He ministered to the Samaritan woman. Not supposed to talk with Samaritans – outcast
7. Washed the disciples feet
Demonstrated serving others for them
8. Prayer for the disciples
Intercession. Jesus was continually praying for His friends/disciples.

Why is serving important?
You will find very quickly what is in your heart by what you are willing to do and not do. Bobby Conner says it best, “God will offend your mind to reveal your heart.” Serving us the area where authority issues will show up – “No ones going to tell me what to do.” (They shouldn’t have to, you should beat them to it!) “I’m not going to do that….. Let someone else” and on and on. But truly if you will listen to your heart you will find that you grow fastest through serving.

When you find a ‘negative’ thought or feeling ruse up when you are asked to do something – QUICKLY tell your flesh and mind to be quiet and QUICKLY do what has been asked of you! If you will do this you will see God catapult you forward. Why?

If you will say no to every trivial, hard or dirty thing ( whatever your hang up is!) then God will not be able to entrust you with His treasures… because you won’t see them as treasures…. And you won’t see the importance of what He has asked you to do. There is sooooo much you will miss if you do not learn to serve.

It’s a Heart Issue

Ephesians 6:5-9 (New Century Version)

Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your masters here on earth with fear and respect and from a sincere heart, just as you obey Christ.6 You must do this not only while they are watching you, to please them. With all your heart you must do what God wants as people who are obeying Christ.7 Do your work with enthusiasm. Work as if you were serving the Lord, not as if you were serving only men and women.8 Remember that the Lord will give a reward to everyone, slave or free, for doing good.

9 Masters, in the same way, be good to your slaves. Do not threaten them. Remember that the One who is your Master and their Master is in heaven, and he treats everyone alike.

Humility/Trust with the Small things

Matthew 25:21 (New Century Version)

21 The master answered, ‘You did well. You are a good and loyal servant. Because you were loyal with small things, I will let you care for much greater things. Come and share my joy with me.’

Relating to People Where They’re At

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (New Century Version)
19 I am free and belong to no one. But I make myself a slave to all people to win as many as I can.20 To the Jews I became like a Jew to win the Jews. I myself am not ruled by the law. But to those who are ruled by the law I became like a person who is ruled by the law. I did this to win those who are ruled by the law.21 To those who are without the law I became like a person who is without the law. I did this to win those people who are without the law. (But really, I am not without God’s law—I am ruled by Christ’s law.)22 To those who are weak, I became weak so I could win the weak. I have become all things to all people so I could save some of them in any way possible.23 I do all this because of the Good News and so I can share in its blessings.

Friend of God
You go from being a servant to a friend. How does that happen? When you server you learn about those things and people you are serving. Their wants, desires, needs, expectations. It is the same with God. At first you are doing it because someone asked you to. Then you move in a place, when you see how lives are being impacted, that you become friends of those you are helping. You now see the way God sees.

John 15:15 (New Century Version)

15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I heard from my Father.
