The Position And Practice Of A Believer

Ok I decided to do a short bible study and go into as much depth as I could about each verse so you could all get the most out of this =)

I will be using the NCV translation{ New century version} and the passage will be

Colossians 3:1-4:6

1 Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.2 Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth.3 Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God. 4 Christ is your[a] life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory.

I see this to me as being since we have died again in Christ that as being no longer the same again that we need to seek God and his heavenly gifts. But to do that we need to start looking at the spiritual in this world and what’s behind it. Now you don’t have to get all crazy as seeing the spirit and what not But know that we are all in a spiritual battle and wether or not we see it that way or choose to believe it, it’s going to be that way. We need to see that attack of the enemy and see what God has given us and use it to fight back and were never going to do that with out having our sight set on God, Heaven and the spirit realm.

5 So put all evil things out of your life: sexual sinning, doing evil, letting evil thoughts control you, wanting things that are evil, and greed. This is really serving a false god. 6 These things make God angry.[b] 7 In your past, evil life you also did these things.

Well I wonder what kind of sin he is talking bout here lol. He basically sums up the whole shah-bang here. This verse is pretty self relevant so I don’t think I need to go into detail here =)

8 But now also put these things out of your life: anger, bad temper, doing or saying things to hurt others, and using evil words when you talk.9 Do not lie to each other. You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before.10 You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God.11 In the new life there is no difference between Greeks and Jews, those who are circumcised and those who are not circumcised, or people who are foreigners, or Scythians.[c] There is no difference between slaves and free people. But Christ is in all believers, and Christ is all that is important.

Ok this paragraph is amazing if you really read it. In the paragraph before this he covered some huge things but in this paragraph there alot more subtle. I know we all have something in this subtle category I’ll call it that we need to deal with. But we got rid of the big sin why this subtle stuff? Well it says right there that we are being made more and more like Christ and in taking out the subtle stuff we come to know the true knowledge of God.

I love how verse 11 is. We are all the same in Christ is basically the sum of it. We are no better than baptists or any other denomination. We all believe in the one true God and the only way to get to him so why does it matter about denomination? Well its what your comfortable with as a person. But as the times are coming closer to an end everyday I have started to notice personally that the denominations are moving closer together and starting to believe in alot of the same practices. Cause we are all working as hard as we can to get close to God and reach those around us that denomination has no longer become a political battle really. Thru striving harder and harder we have come to almost the exact same beliefs on stuff. Now not all that is true cause there is fundamental beliefs and rules and how things work. But the way I mean is that you see all the denominations getting more and more comfortable with speaking in the spirit, speaking the prophetic and striving to reach this generation. You may not all agree but I have started to believe and have started seeing the lines merging ever closer together that it no longer matters as long as we strive for the same goal and I believe that is what’s being said here.

12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So you should always clothe yourselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Bear with each other, and forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, forgive that person because the Lord forgave you. 14 Even more than all this, clothe yourself in love. Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking, because you were all called together in one body[d] to have peace. Always be thankful.16 Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.17 Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

Ok I love NCV translation here. It is so down to the point and writes it how I would right it if I was to cover it. So read it a couple times and we will move on cause I really don’t need to cover this spot =) Except verse 13 and 14, I cant stress how much your life will change and how much your walk with God will change. I’ve been working on forgiving and not letting things get to me. Now I’m human so I’m not perfect and I do make mistakes but I ask for forgiveness. Now a thing that will help you forgive people when they attack you or anything and it goes with what I said earlier its a spiritual war. See it for what it is. It’s not that person attacking you its satan. Now don’t go off telling people I forgive you for attacking me cause I know it was the attack of the devil you will be a complete moron if you do that lol, Cause all you’re going to do there is cause strife and devision and it’s not needed. If someone comes into the church and sees quarreling and fighting over some batting off there mouth it doesn’t make that church or its community look good whatsoever so don’t do it.

18 Wives, yield to the authority of your husbands, because this is the right thing to do in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your wives and be gentle with them.

20 Children, obey your parents in all things, because this pleases the Lord.

21 Fathers, do not nag your children. If you are too hard to please, they may want to stop trying.

22 Slaves, obey your masters in all things. Do not obey just when they are watching you, to gain their favor, but serve them honestly, because you respect the Lord.23 In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people.24 Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, which he promised to his people. You are serving the Lord Christ.25 But remember that anyone who does wrong will be punished for that wrong, and the Lord treats everyone the same.

Ok I really want everyone and its for myself also, To get verse 22-25. Think of it in another term is if all you do is complain about serving or you do help out but all you do is complain later. You’re doing nothing but harming yourself. If you don’t complain and do it with your whole heart as if God made it your life mission to do that then you will be rewarded with Christ. Now here’s the funny thing it is your mission. It shows you are humble and it shows you know how to listen and if you can’t listen or help out when there is a need how are you ever going to listen to God or help out when God rises up a need. It is our mission to serve. If you can’t serve your most likely not going to be going out and serving to reach people or maybe even going out at all cause if you can’t server how our you going to here God when he asks you to witness to someone or to pray over your school?

Colossians 4
1 Masters, give what is good and fair to your slaves. Remember that you have a Master in heaven.

I should have added that to the paragraph above but I forgot to.

2 Continue praying, keeping alert, and always thanking God.3 Also pray for us that God will give us an opportunity to tell people his message. Pray that we can preach the secret that God has made known about Christ. This is why I am in prison.4 Pray that I can speak in a way that will make it clear, as I should.

I love this right here. Continue praying , keeping alert and always thanking God. It doesn’t say pray. It says continue praying. Keeping alert and always not sometimes but always thanking God. If we never thank God why should he give us more if we never show him that we are thankful for everything he does for us. “Pray that God will give us an opportunity to tell people his message”. We should be praying for this everyday. It says in a couple verses back to hold of every opportunity available. Everyday is an opportunity cause we never know if we have the next do to do his will. So pray that everyday you will be able to share him. If it’s by telling someone, or just showing them God by serving, just being nice ect. I love the quote and I should know who says it by now but I don’t remember but it goes “Preach God always, Use Word If nescisary”. We should live our lives by that quote its so amazing. And to add to the always thanking God part. I think it falls in line with what we learned at bethel. We aren’t going to talk about what God hasn’t done but what he has done. I believe that verse falls inline there to. Just thought I would give that to you to ponder.

5 Be wise in the way you act with people who are not believers, making the most of every opportunity.6 When you talk, you should always be kind and pleasant so you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should.

Ha Ha I think I covered this in the last description I posted lol

Ok Now everything must come to an end but something that I want to point out that you had to read all that to get is this. We to often say we aren’t moving in God or we don’t know what to do next to move closer to him. Well here you go you got a checklist now per-say. This passage of scripture is amazing when you sit down to read it. Another thing I want to add so when you study the word that has helped me is “Believe what you read, Don’t read what you believe”. I read that in one of John Bevere’s books and it has really helped me to understand the word in a new way.

Well tell next time ttyl =)
